ABOUT THE HEIGHTS COMMUNITY CHILDREN'S CHOIR

                                 Our Newest Ministry!!!

For the 2012-2013 school year, the Heights Community Children's  Choir will begin with one choir comprised of approximately forty students (2nd through 5th grade). They will rehearse once a week for one and a half hours, sing in church once a month, participate in a service of Lessons and Carols for the community (December),  take part in the Annual Children's Hymn Fest (February), and sing in various community settings (i.e. assisted living homes) in the fall and in the spring. The children also will be given a fun, special outing at the end of the year to celebrate their friendships, service, and accomplishments.

The music curriculum for the Heights Community Children's Choir will be a graded choral program based on the Royal School of Church Music's VOICE for LIFE program. Students start at an entry level and progress to higher levels by participation throughout the year and annual exams. Choristers are assessed on musicianship, vocal technique, and knowledge of liturgy and prayers. As they progress through the curriculum, different color ribbons are earned and different vestments are worn. The children also wear a RSCM medal along with their ribbons.

The children also will be offered enrichment activities which may include piano, tutoring, painting, movement/dance, karate, or public speaking/acting. These thirty-minute classes will follow choir practice and coordinate (when possible) with the themes and images form their choir music. Opportunities to highlight accomplishments will be given.
